Staff explained that annual canal maintenance (including vendor spraying to control thick lake grass on Lake Ida canals) will continue and summarized a prior effort to redesign a culvert on Mission Hill Road; the culvert design was completed but state matching funds were not allocated, so staff recommended continuing the assessment-funded maintenance program.
During the public hearing on the fire assessment, staff said the fire assessment rate will remain the same as the prior year. Following the public hearing, the commission moved to approve the resolutions. The commission’s meeting record shows the canal maintenance measure was approved and the fire assessment measure carried, with staff noting one commissioner was not present for the roll call on that vote.
Commissioners asked staff to explore multi‑jurisdictional approaches for larger infrastructure appropriations (for example, coordination with the Lake Worth Drainage District and Delray Beach) and asked staff to seek legislative or appropriations support when projects are multi‑jurisdictional.
