Board hears construction-document timeline; SED submission set for March 28, construction hoped for 2026

Board members received an update on the district's capital-improvement project timeline and design details, including plans for playground procurement and cosmetic branding for covered student entrances.

During the facilities committee report, the board was told the construction-document phase is active and that the district has roughly eight weeks until a March 28 submission to the State Education Department (SED). The presentation noted that SED review and comment are expected between September and October, followed by addenda and a bid process that could take several months; the district intends to begin construction in 2026 if schedule and approvals proceed as planned. "So as of right now, we have roughly roughly 8 weeks before March 28, which is the submission deadline to SED," the chair said.

Design details shared publicly include a home-and-careers renovation (reducing three kitchens to two), a new sewing area, renovation of elementary bathrooms near the LGI, covered entries at elementary and secondary entrances with large lettering visible from the road, and upgrades to mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems including bus-garage infrastructure. Leaders said playground equipment will be purchased through a state cooperative contract once budget figures are finalized, and that community input will be solicited on colors and other finish choices.

Board members asked about community fundraising and volunteer contributions for the playground; leadership said community fundraising is likely acceptable and that volunteer construction by residents is limited by equipment certification and liability considerations, though the district will explore options for community involvement.

Next steps: district staff will post updated design images to the website, schedule a community meeting when a clearer playground budget is available, and proceed with SED paperwork and later procurement phases.
