Parent urges board to address unsafe bus stop on County Route 23

Rachel Young, a parent of a kindergartner, told the Granville Central School District board that her child's assigned bus stop on County Route 23 at the bottom of Morehouse Lane has two blind corners and limited posted speed signs, and said she has not received clear answers from school officials after repeated emails. "I'm here tonight because I am looking for some clarification, and a better understanding and with hopes of finding a safe resolution for my daughter," she said.
Chair (speaker 1) said the board has been discussing the concern with the district transportation supervisor and with Scott Taylor from the highway department, and cautioned that the district cannot override the highway department's determination about stop placement. "We can't go against what the highway department tells us," the Chair said.
A district staff member (speaker 5) asked Young to call the office to set up a meeting with the transportation supervisor and the staff member so the matter could be reviewed outside the public meeting. The staff member said the district would arrange an in-person follow-up rather than address specifics during the meeting.
The exchange did not include a timeline for any change to the stop location or a statement that alternative stop locations have been approved; the board deferred further action to a follow-up meeting with transportation staff and the highway department.
