Board approves routine contracts, ARP-funded instrument bids and four personnel hires

During its Aug. 6 meeting the Fredonia board approved routine operational items and confirmed several hires.

Contract and bidding: The board approved a contract renewal with Johnson Controls Fire Protection for the Main Street and Wheelock campuses; staff said the contract was about $1,500 less than the prior year. The board also approved musical-instrument purchases under an ARP amendment (the district set an ARP amendment not-to-exceed $200,000 for additional instruments/storage), with staff noting ARP spending deadlines and the need to meet a Sept. 30 expenditure timeline. Annual supply bids were presented and approved and confirmed as largely in line with prior years.

Personnel: The board approved the following appointments by voice vote: - Courtney Kirshiak — probationary elementary teaching appointment; she completed undergraduate and graduate work at Fredonia State and did student teaching locally. - Stacy Wallace — probationary special-education teaching appointment; staff noted local residency and prior early‑childhood work. - Sarah Kosaneski — probationary appointment as assistant principal; staff highlighted administrative credentials and prior district ties. - Amanda Kent — full‑time long‑term substitute middle-school special-education appointment pending final certification (staff said certification issues have since been resolved and she will convert to probationary status once finalized).
