Fredonia board approves tenure, accepts two veteran retirements and appoints new science teacher

The board voted to approve tenure for Jay (Jake) Carroll in the physical-education tenure area. Colleagues described Carroll as "enthusiastic," student-centered and a steady leader for varsity tennis; Carroll addressed the board to thank staff and the community.
The board also accepted the resignations for retirement of Teresa Nobles, a longtime high-school science teacher, and Laura Depew, a veteran business teacher who built the district internship program. Trustees repeatedly praised both educators for decades of service and instructional contributions; both departures were approved by voice vote.
Finally, the board appointed Gregory Hallmark to a probationary science-teaching position. Staff described Hallmark's transition from student teacher to a full-time role via an agreement with SUNY Fredonia and noted his certification was recently finalized; the appointment was backdated to his certification date.
All personnel items were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the public transcript.
