Cold Spring Harbor highlights student work, honors retirees and staff in year‑end reviews

Amber, president of the junior–senior high executive board, introduced student officers and incoming leaders and thanked the board for district support. "We just want to thank everyone for giving us the opportunity to come here tonight and just show you how grateful and appreciative we are for everything that the board has done for us and our education," Amber said.
The Board President presented the 2024 Exemplary Service Award — given annually to an employee recommended unanimously by administration and the board who has at least five years of service — to Valerie Massimo for her contributions to Lloyd Harbor School. Massimo accepted the award and praised colleagues and families for their support.
Principals from Goose Hill, West Side, Lloyd Harbor and the junior–senior high summarized this year’s work tied to district goals: literacy initiatives grounded in the science of reading, increased small‑group instruction and assessment conferences, new math benchmarks and enrichment clubs, and expanded AP and research opportunities at the high school. Goose Hill reported a 13% gain in reading levels by year’s end, above the 10% target.
High school presenters listed extracurricular and academic accomplishments including robotics, national competitions, research symposiums and expansion of AP options. Administrators said the district will continue work on grading‑practice alignment and curriculum articulation; the district expects assessment results in July.
Administrators also previewed facilities and summer bond work that will proceed on projects already approved by the state (bathroom and kitchen renovations, auditorium work) and noted longer lead times for projects requiring state approval, such as some air‑conditioning installations.
What happens next: building leaders said materials and a full slide deck are available to the community, principals will continue outreach to families, and the district will follow up on grading and curriculum work in the coming year.
