Ms. D'Souza gave a preliminary budget update, noting that Governor Hochul released an executive budget proposal and the district has received preliminary state aid figures that remain tentative until action by the legislature. “They are preliminary still until they go to the legislature,” she said.
The administration has begun budget development with input from building administrators and directors, is reviewing current expenditures and identifying adjustments to meet projected needs, and published a board‑approved budget calendar on the district website. Ms. D'Souza listed challenges that will affect planning, including rising costs for special education, student instructional support services, contractual increases, utilities and insurance while working to remain within the tax levy limit.
The board was invited to attend and review upcoming budget presentations, which are scheduled to begin in March; recordings will be made available for those who cannot attend. The update was informational and no budget votes were taken at this meeting.
