Board approves student-led Bible discussion group as official Chester Academy club

The Chester Union Free School District Board on Feb. 12 approved a motion to make a student-led Bible discussion group an official club of Chester Academy.
Mister Flanagan described the group as a student-led discussion forum that previously attracted 10–12 students. He told the board an adult would serve only as a supervisor to ensure respectful discussion; the school would not participate in or lead the religious content.
Chair moved to make the Bible Club an official club of Chester Academy; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. No nays were recorded in the public transcript.
Flanagan said the advisor under consideration understands the role is supervisory and that meetings would be open to middle- and high-school students regardless of faith. He also said the students planned weekly after-school meetings and possible fundraisers for local charities.
The board did not discuss any formal restrictions in the public record beyond the principal’s assurances that the school would maintain separation of church and state and act only as facilitator for student expression. The Board recorded the motion in the minutes and the club will be recognized in school activities going forward.
