District says engineering review for safety capital project is complete, architectural review underway

The district’s safety capital project — approved by voters last May — has cleared the most detailed SED engineering review and is now in architectural review, Mr. DeRosa told the board. “Today, we received word from state ed that the engineering portion of this review has been complete,” he said.
The project was submitted to the State Education Department in November; SED had indicated a review window greater than 30 weeks, but DeRosa said the engineering review finished sooner and the architectural review returned two minor questions the district expects to answer promptly. He said his hope is the project will be approved more quickly than the prior projection, after which the district will bid the work and begin ordering materials.
DeRosa described the district’s intended timing for construction: the goal remains to start work the day after graduation, and the district is making plans with outside organizations that use district buildings in anticipation of that schedule. No final approval or contract award has occurred yet; the board received the update as informational.
The district also noted it will continue coordinating with local organizations and that specific construction timelines will depend on SED clearance and procurement.
