At the Feb. 26 meeting, Missus Garcia updated the board on academic supports: she reported several English language learners earned honor‑roll recognition this quarter and welcomed Charlotte Petropalo as the new middle‑school ENL teacher.
Garcia said the APPR/PLP committee met to plan March 7 superintendent conference day and launched an in‑service academy that will allow teachers to plan and lead workshops eligible for CTLE credit. Interest and proposal forms have been distributed to staff.
On Academic Intervention Services (AIS), Garcia said the district currently offers AIS in three subjects at the middle and high school — math, ELA and high‑school science — and that 50 students have completed a mid‑year survey to evaluate the program. She said the district is reviewing whether AIS supports correlate with students’ performance in core classes and noted some students report low intrinsic motivation; staff will use the survey data to refine supports and expectations for next year.
A board member asked whether AIS feedback would include support staff and ICT teachers; Garcia said the current AIS participation is limited to students in AIS classes while the district examines alignment with core course instruction.
