Missus Garcia, a district presenter, told the board the district observed Black History Month with a multicultural spirit week across CES and Chester Academy, featuring music performances, drum line and student art inspired by Jean‑Michel Basquiat and Alma Thomas. "It was a tremendous collaboration event that all students found meaningful, educational, and engaging," she said.
Garcia credited the music department (voice ensemble and high‑school band), the art department and English and science classes for classroom and auditorium displays and performances. She said alumni and multicultural club officers made cameo performances and that videos and photos from the events will be posted to the district's social media.
The presenter also described a Family Instructional Academy session — a winter 'painting together' event held on a snow date — that drew 38 families. Organizers apologized for limited seating and said they will offer another session in spring in the larger academy gymnasium and post signups on ParentSquare. Board members and at least one participant praised the event for providing in‑person explanations of available course descriptions and for boosting family engagement.
The board was told the district will continue to rotate departments into family engagement sessions (the next focus will be physical education) and to post multimedia from the events online. The district encouraged families to watch the posted materials and to sign up for the spring session when it is posted.
