Board reviews AHERA update, delays capital project adoption until leadership is settled

The Caledonia-Mumford Central School District superintendent briefed the board on a six-month review under the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) and the timing of planned capital work.

Superintendent Robert Molasani told the board that recent emergency projects had identified areas requiring asbestos support and that district facilities and systems are currently "in good shape." He said staff had intended to adopt a capital project at the meeting but that formal adoption was delayed until the board president is in place so work could be scheduled and completed during summer break when students are not present.

"So we don't have a president, so we cannot... have resolutions for this evening, so we can do just business items where it doesn't require a vote," the presiding member stated in the transcript. The superintendent said he would consult with absent board members to schedule a follow-up meeting to elect a president and move forward with hiring and capital project actions that require formal approval.

The superintendent also noted the district has teachers ready to hire and said the district aims to complete hiring "ASAP," subject to completing the necessary board approvals once leadership is confirmed. The AHERA materials and the six-month review were available in the meeting packet for public review, according to the superintendent.
