Dan Sadler presented the district's staffing snapshot showing steady improvement in vacancy counts and fill rates. Citing August snapshots across three years, he said vacancies were 67 in 2022, 38 in 2023 and 28 as of Aug. 9, 2024. He reported certified vacancies fell from 19 to 9 to 8 and noted a current certified vacancy count of 11 by one counting method, resulting in a roughly 2.1% vacancy rate and a 97.9% fill rate for certified positions; classified full‑time vacancy rate was reported at about 4.4%.
Sadler credited the district's competitive salaries, an early retirement notification incentive, local and virtual career fairs, social‑media branding and partnerships (including Handshake, UNLV and regional university recruitment) with improving recruitment. He said word‑of‑mouth accounted for roughly 65% of applicants who reported how they heard about openings. He also described programs to develop candidates, including alternative‑route licensure (iTeach) and a UNLV paraprofessional preparedness partnership.
The board praised the HR team's work and Sadler invited community members interested in coaching or substitute roles to consult the district website.
