Clovis board adopts 2025–26 calendar E after public survey; graduation set for May 23

The Clovis Municipal Schools Board voted to adopt Calendar E for the 2025–26 school year after hearing district staff present results of a public survey showing Calendar E as the plurality favorite.

District staff told the board the survey narrowed three drafts (C, D and E) and that Calendar E received roughly 45% of the vote in the second round. Staff said Calendar E removes the “Super Snow Monday” placeholder and shifts some holidays to provide schools a full Thanksgiving week in most drafts. The district noted the calendars all provide 173 instructional days plus one parent‑teacher conference day (174 days for students) and 183 contract days for teachers.

Board members discussed tradeoffs including Thanksgiving timing, start dates and the effect on families in the local military community. One board member said she was “a little uneasy about shortening the Thanksgiving break” because families stationed nearby often travel at that time. The district responded that the calendar options were revised based on community input and attendance concerns, and that a Friday graduation model (graduation on the evening of Friday, May 23 with an early release that day) would remain possible.

A motion to approve Calendar E carried on a voice vote. The motion was recorded as moved by Mister Cordova and seconded by Mister Hamilton; the transcript records a collective “Aye” and the chair announced the motion carried but does not provide a roll‑call tally in the record.
