District staff presented an update on RSU 14’s strategic plan and a Farm‑to‑School action plan. The superintendent summarized the plan’s history and six core beliefs; Christine (district staff) described three district goals for the current year: (1) implement the instructional framework with targeted professional development and feedback cycles, (2) increase staff engagement through differentiated professional development and shared leadership, and (3) boost student engagement with authentic, community-linked learning.
Christine also described farm-to-school work: a successful grant application to send a seven-person district team to the Shelburne Farm Institute, ongoing monthly coaching with regional farm-to-school integrators, and survey results from staff (85 responses) showing a starting point for expansion — roughly 21% of respondents reported currently engaging students in farm or outdoor programming. The district identified four action areas for farm-to-school this year: curriculum and classroom integration, nutrition/cafeteria programming, outdoor learning infrastructure, and community outreach.
Staff said they will continue to develop measurable action steps and return to the board with progress updates and materials for public review.
