The Lacey Township Committee provisionally promoted Paul J. Sullivan Jr. to chief of police and Samuel C. Delasallo III to police captain at its Nov. 25 meeting, swearing both officers into their new roles.
Retiring Chief Christopher Kenny, introduced by the committee before the swearing, reflected on his 25 years and seven months with the department and thanked officers, retirees and community members for their support. "It's been an honor and privilege to serve this organization," Kenny said, adding that his retirement will be effective Dec. 1.
Paul J. Sullivan Jr. took the oath and pledged to "faithfully, impartially and justly" perform the duties of chief. After he was sworn in, Sullivan told the committee he would "give you everything I have," and committee members offered congratulations.
The committee also approved Resolution 2025-312 to promote Samuel C. Delasallo III to police captain; Delasallo, who has served in narcotics and special-enforcement units and completed state and federal leadership training, recited the oath and described himself as "excited and grateful" for the opportunity.
In related actions the committee appointed Paul J. Sullivan Jr. as the township's emergency management coordinator and Samuel Delasallo as deputy emergency management coordinator. Those appointments were introduced and passed as separate resolutions during the same meeting.
All promotions and the emergency-management appointments were moved, seconded and approved by roll call. The governing body and speakers cited the officers' local roots, training and prior service as reasons for their selections. The committee did not discuss changes to departmental budget lines during the public session.
The committee closed the public portion of the meeting and later approved convening an executive session to discuss personnel matters.
The committee said the promotions are provisional pending completion of prescribed promotional procedures.
