Board approves required policies, regulations and routine consent items; several abstentions on consent bundle

The East Windsor Regional School District board moved and voted on multiple policy items and a large consent bundle during its Oct. 14 meeting.
On second reading the board approved a slate of mandated policies, including equal employment opportunities, anti‑discrimination, equity in school and classroom practices, guidance counseling, bilingual/ESL education, concussion prevention/treatment, and equitable educational opportunity.
The board also approved regulation 2431.4 (prevention and treatment of sports‑related concussions and head injuries) and a set of recommended policies for second reading that included a code of ethics, sportsmanship policy, policies on secret societies and equal access for student organizations, vandalism policy, and notification of juvenile offender case dispositions. A minor typographical issue in the sportsmanship policy was noted for correction.
During the meeting the board approved routine agenda items by exception, bundling staffing updates (10/14/2024), the HIV report (09/30/2024), evaluation items, out‑of‑district placements, new field‑trip sites, travel expenses, nonresident student approvals, transportation jointures, DOE submissions, a donation of shelving to buildings and grounds, confirmation of the 2024‑25 budget passage and tax levy, minutes, financial reports and the bill list.
Roll‑call votes recorded affirmative responses for the policy motions and for the routine bundle overall. The transcript shows several members abstained on specific lines of the consent package (the record notes abstentions by individual members on certain lines and items); the motion to approve routine items by exception passed with the recorded abstentions.
