MACCRAY introduces new pre‑K–5 principal and hears turf installation update

The MACCRAY School District Board of Education heard an introduction from the district’s new pre‑K–5 principal and received updates on back‑to‑school preparations and athletic‑field work.

The new pre‑K–5 principal told trustees they were “really honored to be your new…principal,” said staff had been accommodating during the transition and described recent training and data work that will inform decisions about reading and math supports this year. The principal said staff mentorship and professional development sessions are planned and that class lists have been mailed with further tweaks to follow.

A district staff member updated the board on the athletic turf installation, describing how granules are applied over the turf, noting the press box has arrived on site and describing electrical and lighting tests planned in the coming week. The presenter said crews were working and that the turf should settle in time for practice in August; the district aims to play the first home game Sept. 13 though trustees and staff briefly clarified homecoming scheduling.

The presenter also listed upcoming professional development: a back‑to‑school workshop with guest speaker Kevin Honeycutt, an appearance by a new special‑education director from the cooperative (identified as Larry Severson) and training on mandatory reporting and vehicle‑operation safety for staff.
