Board members raised concerns about how confiscated devices would be handled and the liability for staff if phones were damaged while in staff custody; one building leader said, “I’m very concerned with my staff putting themselves in that position,” when discussing staff responsibility for confiscated phones.
The board voted to accept the proposed changes as presented and affirmed that a finalized policy (to be integrated into Board Policy 524 on acceptable use) will return for formal approval after staff input. The district’s legal review of Policy 524 is still in progress and a model policy will be incorporated when complete.
