North Marion students, clubs and CTE projects highlighted; Team Oregon Build to deliver cottage materials

Students and staff reported club activities, robotics and music events; district staff said a state ESSER grant will fund Team Oregon Build materials for cottages and accessories, delivered in early April and worked on through June by students.
Student leaders and staff used the March 11 board meeting to update trustees on extracurricular programs and community events.
High school ASB representatives outlined recent and upcoming activities: a spirit assembly, classified staff recognition, Key Club literacy outreach to primary students, volunteering at Aware Food Bank, prom planning (May 18 at Stafford's Venue) and May Day preparations (May 3). Robotics teams advanced at recent state championships; NHS reported new member applications and officers planning; FFA and other clubs are preparing for state events.
Career and technical education update: District staff (Tom, S8) described a Team Oregon Build project supported by state ESSER funds. The grant covers materials for 8x16 cottages and accessory packages; materials will be delivered in early April and students will build the cottages (high school) and accessories (intro classes) through June. The materials are provided at no cost to the district beyond student labor and the program allows the state to redeploy units regionally for disaster response if needed. Staff said the district intends to keep a cottage on-site for lumber storage but noted ownership remains with the state/program and units could be redistributed if needed during emergencies.
Facilities and arts: Linda (S7) reported progress on a new soccer field (Johnston property) pending grading and irrigation; staff expect fences to be installed along Grama and Boones Ferry roads if weather permits. Administrators also shared updates on a high-school mural and artist-in-residence work, literacy day with Department of Education visitors, and upcoming music performances.
The board thanked students and staff for their work and encouraged community volunteers for May Day and other events.
