Following the budget committee’s adjournment, the Centennial School District board convened a work session on May 22 and voted on several business items.
School buses: The board approved purchase of two special-education school buses at a total price not to exceed $225,000. Director Sotherton explained the district received a $55,730 DEQ grant to cover approximately 25% of the cost and that the Oregon Department of Education will reimburse roughly 70% of new-bus costs over 10 years as part of a statewide transportation-equipment program; the district is expected to pay the remaining share spread over the financing period. The board moved, seconded and approved the purchase by voice vote.
Procurement policy (DJC/DJC-AR): The board reviewed OSBA-recommended updates consolidating procurement policies and increasing thresholds: small procurements from $10,000 to $25,000 and intermediate procurements from $150,000 to $250,000, with regular procurement for purchases over $250,000. Directors discussed the long interval since the last update (about 11 years) and whether a local AR should be added; staff reported familiarity from past bond work and recommended adopting the statewide updates. The board voted to adopt the policy and associated AR.
Other policies: The board also approved multiple OSBA-recommended policy updates in the special-education and students sections: IGBHB (program exemptions), IGBAG (special education procedural safeguards with timeline clarifications), JBAA (Section 504 updates and guardianship language) and IGBAF (individualized education program participation) with verbal edits to add guardian-inclusive language and clarify procedures for excusing required team members.
All approvals during the work session were made by voice vote and recorded with no opposition in the public record. The board then announced a forthcoming executive session under ORS 192.660(2)(b) to discuss labor-negotiations deliberations; no decisions will be made in executive session and media representatives may attend that closed session.
