Trustee Young Sigler asked that future search committees include faculty representation; the chair said this ad hoc committee’s charge was to define the board’s next steps and that a subsequent presidential search committee would be formed with guidance from the academic‑search consultant and include additional voices. Consultants from Academic Search were on the remote line during the meeting to answer procedural questions.
Committee members then moved and seconded a recommendation to the full board to: (1) end the current search, (2) commence a new search this summer, and (3) appoint an interim president effective July 1, 2024. The committee proceeded by voice vote; the motion carried. The chair said the committee will report the recommendation to the full board for consideration at its next meeting.
No names were publicly identified at the committee meeting for an interim appointment; the committee record shows only the recommendation and the expected interim start date. The recommendation will be included in the full board packet for the June 7 meeting to allow trustees not on this ad hoc committee to consider and vote on the proposal.
The committee said it will rely on Academic Search for procedural support in conducting a new national search and on the board to establish the composition of the full presidential search committee.
