Resident warns board that student bus stop at curve is hazardous

Ryan Bender, a resident who signed up for public participation, told the Sidney City School Board the student bus stop near his home is dangerous and asked the board to move it or install signage.

"It's an intersection. It's hazardous," Bender said, describing the stop as "in the ditch" and noting that drivers coming up the hill "can't see the bus where it stops." He said a child nearly was hit twice in past years and that the bus driver has stopped using an earlier pull-out because the driver said he could not back into it.

The Chair responded that staff would review the site. "We'll take a look at this with mister Home and Limbo, transportation director, and you'll be hearing that from me personally," the Chair said on the record.

The school board did not take immediate action at the meeting. The Chair said the district's transportation director would be asked to review possible alternatives — moving the stop, adding signage, or identifying a safer nearby pick-up spot — and that the board would follow up with the resident.

The exchange centered on student safety at a local stop and the operational practice of bus drivers; no timetable for remedial work or specific departmental assignment beyond the transportation director review was given at the meeting.
