Perry Local honors long-serving educators and welcomes new hires

The Perry Local Board of Education used part of its regular meeting to recognize and thank a string of longtime district employees who are retiring this spring and to welcome newly approved hires.
Middle-school representative Mr. Nisley and Superintendent Jack Thompson led tributes to several retirees. Mr. Nisley described Robert "Bob" Bales, hired on 05/18/1992, as an inspiring science teacher known for hands-on labs and strong rapport with students. The board also recognized Barry Snead, who started with the district in 1992 and spent more than two decades teaching elementary grades before finishing as a sixth-grade math and science teacher.
Other tributes included Janet (Jan) Sprague, who served the district for about 31 years but was unable to attend because of family commitments, and Tony (athletics), who completed 26 years supporting the district's athletic programs. Superintendent Thompson and board members praised retirees for institutional knowledge, mentoring, and long-term devotion to students.
The board also welcomed newly approved staff members. During roll call and subsequent remarks the board formally welcomed its recently approved director of learning and innovation and a newly appointed middle-school principal, who said they were pleased to return and excited to begin work.
Board members closed the segment by encouraging retirees to stay connected and by thanking staff across departments for their service.
