McGuffey board accepts two resignations, approves several teacher and coach hires

The McGuffey School District board returned from executive session and accepted the resignation of Principal Matthew Wolf, effective July 1, 2024, and authorized administration to post and advertise the vacancy, the board president said. The board approved a slate of hires and rehires. Justin Weiss was approved as assistant principal at a salary of $65,000, subject to assignment and pending receipt of required clearances and medical exams. The board also approved Kelsey Stewart as an autism-support/special-education teacher (Bachelor’s, step 1); Rebecca McCartney as a learning-support/special-education teacher (Bachelor’s, step 3); Patrick Boyer as a business-education teacher (master’s, step 1); and Lindsay Sicks as a choral/music teacher (Bachelor’s, step 2). Each hire was conditioned on required background clearances and any district verification procedures.
Coaching assignments and rehires were recorded as well. HollyAnne Meehan was approved as head girls basketball coach. The board reapproved Caitlin Group as head boys tennis coach, Carly Pettit as head softball coach and Justin Crothers as head track coach for the 2024–25 spring sports season; the board noted that salaries will be prorated in the event of a partial season under the McGuffey Education Association agreement.
An administrator introduced new hires and summarized their qualifications. The introducer described Mr. Wise’s background in middle-school ELA and as a multi-sport coach; Kelsey Stewart was noted as a McGuffey graduate and West Liberty University alumna, and Patrick Boyer’s degrees from Seton Hill and Indiana University were cited. “Thank you to the Board,” one new hire said after being welcomed.
The board president and trustees thanked departing administrators for their service and welcomed new staff. Where votes were recorded in the transcript the chair stated motions carried; the transcript does not list individual roll-call tallies for these personnel votes.
