Keystone Oaks board honors students for PMEA selections and a student-led kindergarten ‘story walk’ project

The Keystone Oaks School District board opened its meeting by recognizing students who represented the district in regional and statewide music festivals and by highlighting a student-created project to ease kindergarten transitions.
Speaker 2 (Administrator) said 14 middle- and high‑school students were selected this year for Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) festivals and that “three of those students … advanced to the highest level, the PMEA All‑State festivals,” which were held at the Warner Theatre in Erie. "Congratulations," the Administrator added as individual students were called to the front.
The meeting also showcased a Remake Learning–linked initiative in which middle‑school students wrote, illustrated and narrated digital stories about kindergarten. Speaker 2 described the work as a “story walk” project led by Mr. Bell and said families will be able to access the students’ videos and digital stories on a district-hosted website this summer so new kindergarten families can review them ahead of school.
A presenter who helped implement the project told the board the videos captured common kindergarten concerns — from worries about friends to lunchtime — and said parents who viewed the site had offered positive feedback. "They were thrilled," the presenter said of families who attended the event.
The board also noted other student achievements during the meeting: the elementary team that placed second at Odyssey of the Mind world competition was singled out, and individual students who participated in district‑level music and band festivities were publicly congratulated.
The recognition segment concluded with brief applause and photo arrangements; district staff said they will gather group photos and finalize the web posting over the summer.
