The board reviewed a proposal to add two vending machines that integrate with the district’s point-of-sale (POS) system so students can use cafeteria funds for on-campus, after-school purchases.
Jacqueline, the food-service presenter, said the machines would carry USDA-compliant meal options as well as snack items and would tie into the POS system in real time so free and reduced meal purchases would be captured. She said current vending and the proposed machines are restocked daily and that cold items typically have a 7–10 day shelf life.
Board members questioned the cost: the transcript records a per-machine price cited at $15,000 and an annual licensing fee of $2,400. Jacqueline explained the higher cost reflects POS integration and licensing; she said vendor staff would service and maintain the machines. Board members asked about reimbursement, service responsibility and whether the district would recoup revenue; Jacqueline said the POS link enables reimbursable meals to be tracked the same as cafeteria purchases.
Administration indicated any procurement or licensing decisions would appear in the coming business agenda; no formal purchase was approved at this meeting.
The board requested additional cost detail and clarification of service terms before formal approval.
