District says 7 Oaks project came in under budget but cafeteria equipment arrived damaged

At the Lebanon Community School District 9 meeting the director of operations reviewed the 7 Oaks project closeout and a separate cafeteria equipment problem.
On the budget, he said the project’s hard-cost estimate was about $4,127,000 and reported, “we came in at $3,985,000,” describing the project as roughly 99.5% complete with a few remaining miscellaneous billings.
He noted the team managed costs through a period of high construction inflation and highlighted a consolidation of fire-alarm systems for the old and new building as a cost and safety decision.
On cafeteria equipment, the operations director said approximately $350,000 of equipment arrived damaged with dents, scratches and broken glass. Because returning the shipment would have created a nine-week lead time that prevented the kitchen from opening on schedule, the district accepted equipment to keep meals running while pursuing replacement and warranty remedies with the vendor and manufacturer.
Board members asked whether the equipment is functional enough to serve meals; the director said service has started and the manufacturer is building a replacement piece that will be shipped.
The report closed with the director noting continued vendor negotiations and that he will return with updates if needed.
