District outlines classroom, assessment and pupil-services plans ahead of Sept. 2 start

District academic and pupil-services leaders gave a series of updates to the board on curriculum, assessment and student supports ahead of the Sept. 2 start.
Dr. Redick Smith described ongoing implementation of STEEL standards (grades 5–8 in implementation; high school biology preparing programming; elementary to begin in the fall) and said the district is introducing "bell to bell" instruction to ensure students receive instruction for every minute of the school day: "Every minute counts, and we want to ensure that our students are being provided with instruction for every minute of their school day," he said. Smith also outlined a multi-year rollout of a single sign-on (ClassLink) to streamline district logins, district-wide implementation of the Panorama program for MTSS and supports, Edmentum/Exact Path reporting to help target instruction, and fall STAR assessments to set baseline proficiency and growth targets.
Dr. Ryan (People/Pupil Services) reported that high school fall sports have started, reminded the public about a cashless entry system for the home football game, and described a pending medicine-management selection with a site visit to Aviva. He said Communities In Schools will continue, with "each of our 1 to 8 schools... up to 60 kids" on a case load and the high school having two case managers able to serve up to 120 students for attendance supports.
Parents asked when high school schedules would be available. The board said schedules are live in PowerSchool and will be handed out to students on Tuesday; parents were encouraged to check the PowerSchool app.
Why it matters: The updates set expectations for instruction, student supports and operations on day one of the school year. The reports also flagged implementation steps (site visits, software rollouts) where the board may expect follow-up.
What happens next: Administrators will continue to implement ClassLink and Panorama rollouts, monitor STAR data in September and finalize the medicine-management recommendation after the Aviva site visit.
