Student reps introduced; district highlights 'Let's Talk' platform and community newsletter

Joy Knight, the district’s 12th-grade student representative, and 11th-grade representative Jason McGowan gave the board a joint opening report on Sept. 25, highlighting back-to-school events, PBIS kickoffs at multiple schools, a district book fair and community volunteer efforts.
Knight said she is maintaining a 3.5 GPA unweighted and is active in student council, National Honor Society and other extracurriculars. McGowan described school fundraising successes — Darby Township School raised $8,237 through a popcorn fundraiser, with the school to receive $4,118.50 for PBIS incentives — and summarized school assemblies and athletics updates.
Dr. Marshall Foreman, director of the Office of Strategic Initiatives, told the board the district launched 'Let's Talk,' an online family- and staff-engagement platform on Aug. 29 that grew from 65 to 83 contacts since its committee update. Foreman also presented the district’s first community newsletter (released the day before the meeting) and described upcoming professional-development sessions in October in partnership with the Delaware County Intermediate Unit, plus plans to develop a district food pantry and cultural events.
The student and strategic-initiatives reports were followed by applause and brief questions from board members. The presentations were framed as early-year highlights and relationship-building efforts between schools, families and community partners.
