Students lauded for HOSA, STEM and art achievements; HOSA chapter to host bone‑marrow drive

Oley Valley School District trustees opened their April 14 meeting by recognizing student achievements across art, music, HOSA and STEM programs.
Administrators and trustees congratulated art students who earned National Scholastic Art recognitions: Mackenzie Caldron and Kai Nicholas received silver and gold keys, respectively, and Kai will exhibit work at Carnegie Hall on June 11.
The HOSA advisor reported that 39 students attended the state HOSA conference in Lancaster with several top finishes, including state champions in health career display and top placements in healthcare exams; the advisor said the chapter was also recognized for its success in adding donors to the national registry and announced plans for a district bone‑marrow drive to support a 20‑year‑old in medical need.
Middle and elementary STEM teams presented infrastructure solutions at the district-level STEM Design Challenge and competed successfully at the BCIU Connex: two elementary teams tied for third place out of 40, and a middle‑school team placed second. Student presenters described prototypes (rail‑bike, rotating bridges, sensor‑equipped designs) and the competition's judging criteria.
Jackson Frymar qualified for the National Geography Bee after a 98% score on the regional qualifying test and will compete in Orlando over Memorial Day weekend. Trustees applauded the students and encouraged public support for upcoming events and exhibitions.
The board invited students and families to remain for the meeting and recognized their contributions to district extracurricular success.
