Third-grade teacher Maggie DeSetta praises Penn Manor SD's support for new educators

Maggie DeSetta, a third-grade teacher at Hambright Elementary, said she chose to work for Penn Manor SD after student-teaching and substituting in the district and has found administrators and colleagues collaborative and supportive.

DeSetta said she decided on the district because of hands-on experience there: “I chose Penn Manor because I had the opportunity to both student teach in the district and substitute.” She described those experiences as decisive in her decision to join the district’s staff.

Describing the workplace culture, DeSetta said teachers and school administrators “were a team,” adding that “it wasn't a power struggle between the two, but they really worked together.” She said that collaborative environment gave her confidence she could advocate for students and receive the backing she needed.

DeSetta said her principal regularly checks in and offers assistance: “My principal is always asking, like, how can I help? What can I do for you? What do you need?” She concluded by saying she is “really loving my experience here.”
