Students, coaches recognized: SkillsUSA national qualifier and record‑setting track season highlighted

The Oley Valley School District Board recognized student accomplishments at its June 9 meeting, spotlighting a SkillsUSA national qualifier and a record‑setting track season.
Student Ryan Blankenbiller told the board he won at the district level in SkillsUSA automotive technology, then won at states and will compete in Atlanta later this month. ‘‘I’m going to Georgia in Atlanta. So, that’ll be from June 23 to the 28th,’’ Ryan said, describing the national competition and his plans.
Board members applauded the student and noted post‑secondary and industry pathways discussed for career‑technical students. The board then invited members of the track and field program forward. Head coach Steve Border described ‘‘another successful season’’ and introduced a staff of coaches and multiple athletes who achieved district and state‑level results, including relay teams that broke school records and individual athletes who qualified for state competition.
Coach Russell highlighted a girls 4x8 relay that reached states and finished second, and coaches noted multiple school records were broken across sprint, middle‑distance and pole‑vault events.
The board invited the coaches and student athletes to leave after the recognition or remain for the business meeting; chair Mr. Fried thanked the students and coaches for the season and for coaching support that included volunteer work by an athletic trainer who runs a fundraiser to support pole‑vault equipment.
What’s next: The recognitions were ceremonial; no board action was required.
