The district’s business manager briefed the Lake Park Audubon board on preliminary budget work, audit preparation and operating highlights on March 24. She reported a past-due Brightwheel balance of $18,005.69 as of March 12 and noted that salaries make up approximately 56.5% of district expenses.
The business manager walked through reports that compare February 2024, January 2025 and February 2025 cash positions and year-to-date expenditures. She said year-over-year expenses are down by approximately $528,000, and explained that some prior-year differences reflected one-time transfers into revenue in 2024.
Board members asked how the Brightwheel arrears are handled; administration said the district sends letters and makes calls, restructures or forgives balances when families demonstrate hardship, and budgets to recoup reasonable arrears. Members also discussed voluntary pre-K funding eligibility, the district’s limited success in securing state pre-K slots, and related enrollment implications.
The board had no formal objection to the presented budget reports; staff will bring further expense/revenue summaries and building-expense listings at upcoming meetings.
