The Central Public School District board on July 22 approved its annual Long-Term Facilities Maintenance (LTFM) plan, a requirement under state law that outlines capital maintenance priorities for the coming years.
Superintendent Schachar presented the plan as a technical, legally required document that can be amended if conditions change. "A lot of our LTFM is going to be heat up by air quality requirements," Schachar said, listing preventative maintenance on chillers, air handlers and furnaces as near-term priorities. Schachar told the board the district currently receives some LTFM funds that are bond-funded and expects allocations to change over the next six years as bonds roll off.
The board discussed the plan's flexibility; Schachar underscored that the plan is a roadmap and that the district could re-categorize needs if a major, unforeseen problem arose. A motion to approve the LTFM plan was made (motion by Ericsson, second by Smith) and approved by voice vote.
What happens next: the district will use the plan to guide maintenance spending and will include the LTFM categories in the FY25 budget cycle; board members may revisit specific projects if new issues emerge or bond payoff timing changes the district's available funding.
