Wellstar to host April 18 community health screenings near Southside Medical Center

Wellstar representatives told East Point residents they will host a community health event on April 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Southside Medical Center parking lot, with mobile screening units and partners including Southside's mobile unit and a media partner (B103) to promote the event.

Steven Walt, introduced as Wellstar's executive vice president for external affairs, said the event will feature multiple screening stations and partner organizations that will provide information to help residents "know your numbers" and connect attendees to primary-care resources. He said the effort reflects Wellstar's continued presence in the community after a local hospital closed and that the event is meant to bridge access until more permanent solutions are in place.

Organizers said they will highlight providers accepting new patients and that a week of media outreach will precede an April 25 follow-up event. Wellstar staff also invited the public to view materials at the back of the meeting and said staffers Joy Hunter (community engagement director) and others would be available to answer questions.

The announcement included logistical details and encouraged residents to attend for screenings and to learn about care options.
