The East Point city manager outlined the city's draft budget process and efforts to increase transparency and resident input.
City staff said the administration is shifting toward "priority-based budgeting," which links spending to resident priorities. The manager announced a capital-projects charrette on March 24 at the city annex where residents can review proposed projects, use sticky notes to indicate priorities and help staff schedule projects into a multi-year plan. The manager said the draft budget will be released to the council and public on April 20, with a public comment and engagement window through June 1 ahead of the fiscal-year start on July 1.
In addition to the budget timeline, staff described a resident-led steering committee working with a consultant to review the zoning code to address incompatible uses and to update provisions that allow undesirable industrial activity adjacent to homes. The manager said the city will publish capital-improvement photos and descriptions in the budget book to help residents understand proposed projects.
Staff also noted planned engagement formats including online sessions and in-person meetings at City Hall and neighborhood locations to broaden participation.
The manager invited residents to the March 24 charrette and to the April 20 draft release as the primary opportunities to influence priorities in the fiscal-year budget.
