Curriculum committee flags confidential settlement, Head Start MOU and BCIU early intervention lease

The curriculum committee presented several items spanning legal, special‑education and early‑childhood partnerships.

"For discussion number 1 to approve the 4 year confidential settlement agreement of $52,000 a year," Mrs. Harris said; she added the board would review details in executive session. Committee members confirmed the confidentiality of the item and that it was time sensitive for agenda and advertisement purposes.

Mrs. Harris also introduced a proposed BCIU early intervention classroom lease for Aug. 1 through July 31, 2026. Staff explained the classroom is housed at the elementary school, is run by the BCIU (not district staff), brings services that help prepare children for kindergarten, and operates at no cost to the district beyond typical custodial cleaning.

"It's a special education program run by the BCIU," staff said, and noted it gives families access to early intervention services they might otherwise pay for privately. The board asked staff to confirm whether district residents receive priority access; staff said the classroom is needs‑based and may serve surrounding areas.

The committee also presented a memorandum of understanding between Oley Valley School District and Head Start of Berks County for the 2025–26 school year and a summer program funding request for one student at $290. Mrs. Harris said the committee is also working on a civics education gap analysis and pursuing a student‑teaching agreement with Albright College.

These items will return to the board when paperwork and any necessary approvals are complete.
