Two CK Burns teachers named state finalists for Presidential Award; board accepts teacher retirement

The Saco Public Schools Board of Education recognized two CK Burns teachers who are state finalists for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. A CK Burns staff member and two teachers described the rigorous selection process and the honor of being selected to represent the state; they noted that if both advance, they could attend national events in Washington, D.C., and have opportunities to speak with people involved in education policy.
"It's a very high honor and very thankful," one teacher said of qualifying as a state finalist, and the board offered a round of applause for the educators.
Separately, the board accepted the retirement of Kathy Moody, a CK Burns teacher, effective at the end of the 2021–22 school year. A motion to accept the retirement was moved, seconded and approved by roll call, 7–0. Board members offered personal thanks and recounted positive experiences with the retiring teacher.
The board recorded no additional personnel votes at the meeting; new hires and other resignations were noted in the meeting packet.
