Sumner LLC’s representative did not appear before the East Allen Township Planning Commission for a requested special exception to operate a commercial flooring business at 8465 Airport Road. The commission noted the ordinance’s requirement that applicants present to the planning commission prior to a zoning hearing and discussed options ranging from taking no comment to issuing a negative recommendation.
Commissioners agreed that, because the applicant failed to present and there was insufficient information for review, the planning commission would recommend denial to the Zoning Hearing Board. The motion to recommend denial passed unanimously, 5–0.
Next steps: The recommendation will be part of the record presented to the Zoning Hearing Board at the scheduled hearing; the ZHB, as a quasi‑judicial body, may accept evidence and hear the applicant in person, but will consider the Planning Commission’s recommendation as part of the record.
Vote: 5–0 in favor of recommending denial due to lack of applicant appearance and insufficient presentation.
