DeKalb County commissioners voted to accept the recommended workers' compensation renewal (effective Jan. 1) with IPEP after an insurance presenter reviewed claims trends and projected savings tied to the county’s experience modification rate.
The presenter said the county had 29 reported claims this year but emphasized that improved reporting and safety protocols reduced the overall loss ratio and lowered the county’s experience mod. That improvement, the presenter said, produced a net premium reduction of about 9.4% and projected additional savings next year if the trend continues.
Commissioners also reviewed cyber coverage and property/casualty renewal timing. The presenter described Travelers’ cyber services and suggested the county consider penetration testing and other proactive services that Travelers offers as part of the package. Board members asked staff to continue to market the package and review options to ensure the county secures competitive pricing and adequate coverage.
Next steps: staff will continue to work with the presenter to finalize renewals and will return to the board with any material changes; the board approved the renewal motion on the floor.
