DeKalb County Council approves updated matron job description at Sunny Meadows

The DeKalb County Council approved an updated job description for the matron position at Sunny Meadows during a regular meeting, giving Human Resources responsibility for personnel matters and temporarily classifying the role as salaried-exempt while the facility transitions toward closure.

The change, presented by Susan, updates the matron's duties to include bookkeeping oversight and direct assistance with residents' trust-account disbursements. "There are some updates of some different duties that need to be on," Susan said, and added that the position was being made "a salaried exempt, a temporary position as we go through the transition of closing down Sunny Meadows." She told the council the updated description would need council approval.

Council members raised budget questions and sought clarity on financial controls. One member asked whether the position and any stipend were already budgeted; Susan confirmed openings remained in the existing budget and that transfers would address the payment. Council members also clarified operational limits: while the matron would assist residents with banking requests and could prepare checks, the auditor would need to countersign payments, a requirement one member stressed as a control.

Chair moved to approve the updated job description; the motion was seconded by Rick Collins and the council voted to carry the motion. The council recorded the approval, allowing HR to proceed with the updated classification and duties.

The action leaves the county positioned to manage staff responsibilities as Sunny Meadows moves toward closure, with further discussion of relocation and budget impacts appearing later in the meeting.
