CVB reports 7% drop in Weston collections and announces operations director departure

The Weston Tourism Commission heard an update from the Convention & Visitors Bureau showing a decline in room-tax collections and a staffing change.
Tim, the CVB representative, told commissioners that ‘‘the collections are down about, for 2025, about 7% in the village of Weston,’’ and that the bureau had anticipated a 4–8% downturn and shifted marketing to focus on shorter-drive and in-state visitors. He said specialty retail was the biggest sector to suffer and that travelers were tending to drive and stay fewer nights.
Tim also announced a personnel change: ‘‘we lost our, long term director of operations, Jody, to Stevens Point,’’ and said the CVB is actively recruiting a replacement. He described the vacancy as an opportunity to review processes and make the organization more efficient while continuing outreach to hotels, lodging and event partners.
Commissioners asked about event-specific room-night estimates tied to grant requests and post-event reports; Tim and staff pointed to post-event reporting that showed 56 rooms in Weston for one past event and encouraged clearer hotel-block estimates on future grant forms so the commission can better evaluate lodging impact.
Tim highlighted upcoming activity, including the World Horseshoe Pitchers Association visit and related banquet logistics, and noted the CVB will continue targeting meetings, conventions and sports events to rebuild overnight stays. The commission acknowledged the CVB report during the meeting.
The commission set no additional formal direction beyond acknowledging the report; staff will continue recruitment for the director role and follow up with applicants to improve hotel-room reporting on future grant submissions.
