City will not be reimbursed for Star Center gas line, staff says

City economic development staff told the council that Farmers Branch will absorb the cost to install a gas line to the Star Center after staff learned a prior project had disconnected service; the expense is separate from the facility construction contract.
Councilman Reid asked whether the city would be reimbursed for work to install a gas line at the Star Center. Perla Tavera, director of economic development, tourism and planning, said the city will not be reimbursed.
"No. The city will not be reimbursed," Tavera said, explaining that earlier work on the I-35 corridor or another prior project had left the gas service disconnected. When staff coordinated with Atmos to install service, Atmos determined there was no existing line and the city paid to install service for the facility. Tavera said the work is for the facility and is separate from the construction contract.
Council members had no further questions at the study session; staff said counsel had reviewed the related agreements.
