Council hears why Longmead intersection near park was converted to a four‑way stop

Councilman Roehm asked at the Farmers Branch study session why recently installed stop signs at the Longmead/Dennis intersection were changed and whether the change altered enforcement authority.
Ray Silverace, the city's director of public works, said the conversion to a four‑way stop was made after a citizen raised safety concerns about crossings near a city park and a nearby school and after the police department observed speeding. "So we converted that into a 4 way stop sign for Longmead and then the driveway for the park that sits in the middle of that intersection," Silverace said, adding the measure was intended to help control ingress and egress at the intersection.
Silverace explained staff expedited the change in early August so it would be in place before school started and then return to the council later to ratify the change. When asked whether the new signage is enforceable immediately, Silverace confirmed it is.
The council did not take additional action during the study session; staff indicated they would bring the item back for formal ratification on the regular agenda.
