Lincoln County accepts several DEQ grants totaling millions for water and utility upgrades

Diana Rios presented several state (DEQ) grants the county has been awarded and asked the board to adopt resolutions accepting the funds. The board approved each resolution by voice vote.
Key grant awards and project uses presented by staff included:
• Laboratory Road water main extension: $11,428,250 to fund design and construction once DEQ approves; staff said design work has begun.
• Bethel Booster Pump Station relocation: $2,265,684.
• SCADA system upgrades/extension: $1,111,000 to add remote supervisory control and reduce reliance on expensive copper landlines.
• East Highway 150 water main improvements: $1,073,316.
• Asset-management system for utilities: $400,000.
• AMI (advanced metering infrastructure) water meter upgrade: $5,000,000 to begin phased remote-meter reading in eastern portions of the county.
Why it matters: The cumulative grants enable multiple capital projects across the county’s water and utilities system, reduce operating risk tied to aging communications, and fund remote meter technology that staff said will be rolled out starting in the East/Denver–Iron Station area.
