Minneapolis budget committee approves amended 2025 work plan; auditor reallocation postponed

At a May 12 meeting of the Minneapolis City Council Budget Committee, Chair Ayesha Chugtai said the committee approved an amended 2025 budget committee work plan and directed staff on next steps.

"The amended work plan realigns the timeline and reschedules outstanding items," Chair Ayesha Chugtai said, summarizing the measure presented for approval. The committee then moved the item, a second was recorded, and a voice vote was taken. "The ayes have it," Chugtai said, and the motion carried.

The amended plan, Chugtai said, adjusts the committee's schedule for budget planning so the committee's planning work would be completed at the May 12 meeting and the committee would finalize budget priorities at its next meeting. Committee members were reminded a form to submit budget priorities and feedback is due at the end of the week on Friday.

Chugtai said the staff direction formally instructs the legislative department to complete reports and presentations assigned in the work plan, including the proposed 2026 legislative department supplemental budget. Staff are on track, she said, to present that supplemental budget at the committee's next meeting on June 2, 2025.

On the second agenda item, Chugtai said the city clerk has just returned from vacation and, following recommendations from the clerk and the city auditor, the committee would postpone consideration of employee reallocations to the Office of City Auditor to the June 2 meeting. No objections were recorded and the chair said no formal vote was required to postpone the item.

The meeting record shows eleven members present for the May 12 session; the committee adjourned without further action.
