The Bel Air Board of Town Commissioners on Feb. 17 received six ordinances covering election housekeeping, personnel appointment review, sign and zoning clarifications, performance standards and an administrative cross-reference to state liquor and cannabis law.
Town staff explained each ordinance in turn. Mr. Krantz summarized ordinance 8-52-26, saying the change responds to a new state law that removed the State Board of Elections' authority to enter into equipment leases with municipalities and recommends amending Chapter 37 to remove direct references to the state and Harford County Board of Elections. The ordinance would also set a candidate filing window: a 90-day filing window that begins no sooner than 135 days before an election and closes no later than 45 days before an election.
