Library director previews programs as board weighs quarterly schedule and 6:30 p.m. start time

Daniel relayed that the city manager’s office is considering changing how advisory boards are scheduled — moving regular meetings from monthly to quarterly and shifting start times to 6:30 p.m. He characterized the proposal as not finalized and asked for the board’s feedback.
Board members provided mixed reactions. One member said quarterly meetings could accommodate the board’s annual responsibilities such as the five-year plan and policy review, while others said a 6:30 p.m. start would make participation difficult. “I would say it’s for me, it’s pretty challenging to get off work in time,” one member said. Another said the later start time would prevent reappointment because arriving by 6:00 p.m. is already difficult.
Board members asked how to propose new initiatives; staff advised sending items to Jennifer for placement on future agendas so the full board can discuss them. The board also agreed it could assist in drafting the annual library survey, focusing questions on barriers to participation, awareness of e-resources and event feedback.
