The Sachem Central School District Board of Education approved an agreement of sale for 245 Union Avenue during its Oct. 22 meeting.
Trustees moved and seconded a standalone vote after removing the item from the consent agenda. Administration and counsel reported that title issues were resolved: the district secured a clear title after obtaining an affidavit to waive a historical notation and the final outstanding item was closure of the building permit. District staff said they filed the final cost report on Oct. 10 and had spoken with State Education (State Ed) about pushing the final cost report through; staff expected the building‑permit paperwork to be cleared within days so the district would be clear to close on the property. Trustees discussed the expected timing and confirmed a target closing date on or before Nov. 24.
The board voted to approve the agreement (motion by Mike, second by Rob). During roll call there was at least one voiced opposition but the chair declared the motion carried. Administration did not provide financial terms on the record during public discussion; trustees asked only that staff continue to coordinate closing tasks and confirmed counsel’s involvement.
What’s next: administration will continue to finalize permit closeout and coordinate the closing with Suffolk County; trustees may receive closing paperwork in a subsequent board packet.
